On February 1, 2013, the owner of a Honda Civic contacted NYPD’s 47th Precinct to report that his vehicle was stolen while parked near his residence on Burke Avenue in the Bronx. NYPD’s 47th Precinct verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers (NYSPIN/ NCIC), which automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the Honda.

Minutes later, detectives from the Bronx DA’s Auto Squad picked up the silent LoJack homing signals from the stolen Toyota on the Police Tracking Computers installed in their patrol vehicles. Following the directional and audible cues from the LoJack computers, the officers tracked and located the unoccupied vehicle parked on Grenada Place and Grace Avenue in the Bronx’s 47th Precinct. Surveillance was setup for a short time with negative results; the vehicle was impounded for safekeeping and eventually released to a happy owner.

The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in the Honda on March 13, 2006 at Honda of Nanuet UAG in Nanuet, New York.
