In the early morning hours of August 20, 2012, the owner of a 2002 Lexus RX300 returned home and pulled into his driveway. As he exited his vehicle, the owner was immediately confronted by two individuals, who beat him with a pistol and demanded his car keys. The suspects then fled in the victim’s Lexus.

The crime was reported to the Sacramento Sheriff’s Department, who verified the theft and had the vehicle’s information entered into the California Stolen Vehicle System, as well as the national system, NCIC. This routine police action automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the Lexus.  Neither the owners nor law enforcement had to do anything else to activate the LoJack Vehicle Recovery Network, because LoJack’s interface with law enforcement is both seamless and instantaneous.

Within minutes, deputies with the Sacramento Sheriff’s Department began to receive the silent signal emitting from the Lexus’ LoJack transponder on the. LoJack Police Tracking Computers installed in their patrol vehicles. Following the directional and signal strength cues on the LoJack computers, the deputies tracked and located the Lexus, being driven near Watt and Arden Way. Deputies then attempted a felony traffic stop but the suspects fled. After a short pursuit, the driver pulled over and fled on foot, leaving the second suspect and two female passengers inside the Lexus. A Sacramento Sheriff’s Department K-9 was on scene and gave chase to the driver, quickly locating and arresting him. A second passenger suspect was also taken into custody without incident. Both suspects were arrested for car jacking and receiving stolen property.

The Lexus, valued at $12,150, was towed and stored, to be processed for evidence. It was later released back to the grateful owner.

The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in the Lexus RX300 in July of 2002 at Lexus of Thousand Oaks.
