Oxnard Police Using LoJack Locate Stolen Toyota Solara, Arrest One After Foot Chase

On June 28, 2012, the owners of a Toyota Solara contacted the Oxnard Police Department to report that their vehicle was stolen. Oxnard officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle’s information into the state and federal crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the Toyota.
Minutes later, officers from the Oxnard Police Department and Detectives from the California Highway Patrol’s VenCATT’S, picked up the silent LoJack homing signals from the stolen Toyota on the LoJack Police Tracking Computers installed in their patrol vehicles. Following the directional and audible cues from the LoJack computers, the officers located the stolen vehicle in the 100 block of Grant Avenue in the City of Oxnard. The detectives secured the area and set up surveillance on the vehicle. Approximately 20 minutes later, a suspect entered the vehicle and proceeded to drive away. Patrol units were summoned, and immediately responded to conduct a traffic stop. The suspect stopped the vehicle and made a quick dash on foot into a residential yard. Oxnard Police units searched the area, located the suspect hiding in the yard, and arrested him for auto theft related charges without incident.
The vehicle was recovered and impounded for safe keeping. Value of this recovery is $6,175. The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in this vehicle on October 12, 1998 Hamer Toyota, in the City of Mission Hills, California.
