LoJack® System Helps Pennsylvania State Police Auto Theft Task Force Recover a Stolen Toyota Corolla

The owners of a Toyota Corolla contacted the Philadelphia Police Department to report that their vehicle had been stolen from the area of their residence. The Philadelphia PD Radio dispatched a uniformed officer who quickly arrived on location and interviewed the complainant. The officer surveyed the area for the Toyota Corolla and when the vehicle could not be located the officer prepared a stolen vehicle report. The officer then arranged for the vehicle information to be entered into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Toyota.
A short while later a Pennsylvania State Trooper assigned to the Pennsylvania State Police Auto Theft Task Force was in the eastern section of Philadelphia conducting an unrelated investigation. The undercover trooper reported to his HQ that he had picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Toyota with the LoJack Police Tracking Computer (PTC) that was installed in his undercover police vehicle. Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the trooper tracked the signal to the area of 2nd and Louden Streets where the trooper observed the parked Toyota. The trooper cautiously approached the Toyota and determined that same was unoccupied. The trooper arranged for the Toyota to be confiscated for safekeeping and made the proper notifications.
The LoJack® System was installed in the 1999 Toyota Corolla in May 1999 at Torrance Toyota in California.
