LoJack® System Helps Santa Ana Police Department Recover Stolen Chevrolet Express Van

The owners of a 2006 Chevrolet Express Van contacted the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department to report their vehicle was stolen. The Chevrolet Van had been taken to a repair shop and discovered missing by the owner of the shop. The shop owner contacted the victim’s daughter to report the theft.
The LASD Lakewood verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Chevrolet.
A short while later officers from the Santa Ana Police Department picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Chevrolet with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft. Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the officers tracked the Chevrolet to Pacific Avenue and Anahurst Place in Santa Ana. The officers found the Chevrolet parked along the curb with a lone occupant behind the driver seat. The officers detained the subject. The officers found various credit cards, identification cards and a fake Social Security Card inside the Chevrolet and on the suspect’s person. The officers had the victim and owner of the repair shop respond to their location. Neither the victim nor shop owner knew the suspect. The suspect was arrested and the Chevrolet was returned to the owner.
Only two days prior to this theft the same Chevrolet van had been reported stolen by the victim. It was recovered the same day by the LASD Lakewood utilizing the LoJack® System.
The LoJack® System was installed in the Chevrolet Express Van in May 2007 at Sierra Auto Cars in Monrovia California.
