Scion TC from Southern CA Stolen from Church in Utah, Recovered Hours Later, 1 Suspect Arrested

The owner of a 2007 Scion, visiting Utah from Southern California, last saw the vehicle parked in a church parking lot between 9:00 P.M. and 10:00 P.M. on March 12, 2012 as he attended an event at the church. When the event ended, the owner discovered the car stolen and immediately contacted the Provo Police Department to report the theft.
Provo officers prepared a stolen vehicle report and had the Scion’s information entered into the state and federal crime computer systems. This routine police action automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed inside the Scion. Neither the owner nor law enforcement agents had to take any further action to initiate the LoJack tracking process, as LoJack’s interface with the police is both seamless and instantaneous.
Within hours, an officer with the Unified Police Department began picking up the Scion’s LoJack signal on his LoJack equipped patrol car in the city of Murray, Utah. As he began tracking, an officer with nearby West Valley Police Department, also with a LoJack equipped patrol car came to assist. Within minutes, the Scion was located and the lone suspect inside the vehicle was quickly taken into custody.
The vehicle, recovered intact, was tracked and located less than five hours after and over 37 miles away from where it was stolen.
