The owners of a 2004 Nissan Quest contacted the Bell Police Department to report their vehicle was stolen. The owners met with a potential buyer of the Nissan but the “buyer” fled with the Nissan.  The owners provided the Bell PD with a description of the suspect.

The Bell PD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Nissan.

Only nine minutes later deputies from the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department Century picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Nissan with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft.  Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the deputies tracked the Nissan to the city of Lynwood where they found it traveling on Long Beach Boulevard.  The deputy followed the Nissan onto the 105 Freeway.  The deputy attempted to close the distance on the Nissan to initiate a traffic stop but the suspect accelerated, weaving between traffic.  The deputy broadcast he was in pursuit.  The suspect exited the freeway and the deputy lost sight of the Nissan.  The LASD Airship 24 arrived overhead and located the Nissan as it stopped on a residential street just south of the freeway.  Airship 24 watched the suspect exit and run from the Nissan.  The suspect ran to the rear of a residence where they lost sight of the suspect.  Additional patrol deputies arrived and containment was set up.  The suspect was located inside the residence the Airship last saw him.  A female resident was inside the location and told deputies she didn’t know the suspect.  She stated he went into a bedroom, sat on the bed and started crying.

The suspect was arrested for grand theft of the Nissan, felony evading and reckless driving.  The victims were called to the scene and identified the suspect as person that took their Nissan.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Nissan Quest in January 2005 at Performance Nissan in Duarte, California.
