On May 29, 2012, the owner of a 2012 Hyundai Tuscon contacted the San Francisco Police Department to report the vehicle stolen. The victim stated that his family had been enjoying a vacation in San Francisco, and had parked their vehicle at the Golden Gate Park. When they returned for it, they discovered it missing. San Francisco officers verified the theft and had the Hyundai’s information entered into the state and federal crime computers, which activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the vehicle.

A short time later, officers with the San Francisco Police began to receive the Hyundai’s silent LoJack signal on the LoJack Police Tracking Computer installed in their police vehicles. Following the directional and audible signal on the LoJack Tracker, the officers located the Hyundai parked and abandoned on the street. The officers recovered the vehicle, whose only damage was a broken door lock and ignition lock.

The officers then contacted the victims via cell phone and advised them of the recovery. The victims responded to the scene and took possession of their vehicle. They were grateful to be able to continue their vacation without having to rent a car or fly home.
