Stolen Audi A3 Stopped by Fontana Police, Two Arrested for Theft & Outstanding Warrants

On April 18, 2012, the owners of a 2008 Audi A3 reported their vehicle stolen to the Anaheim Police Department, giving them the name of a possible suspect. The LAPD officers completed a stolen vehicle report and had the Audi’s information entered into the state and federal crime computer systems. This routine police action automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed within the Audi. Neither the owners nor law enforcement had to do anything else to activate the LoJack tracking system, as LoJack’s interface with the police is both seamless and instantaneous.
A short time later, officers from the Rialto and Fontana Police Departments and the San Bernardino Sheriff’s Department picked up the Audi’s silent LoJack signal on the LoJack Police Tracking Computers installed in their patrol vehicles. Following the computer signals, Fontana Auto Theft Detectives eventually tracked and located the vehicle, parked in a residential driveway in the 1700 block of Pine, in the city of Fontana.
The officers conducted surveillance on the vehicle for the next few hours until the detectives observed a male matching the victims’ description enter the vehicle and drive away. Assisting officers performed a felony traffic stop on both the stolen Audi and a second vehicle that was driven away from the Pine location. The suspect in the Audi was taken into custody without further incident and booked into the Fontana Police Department. The second suspect was also detained, and ultimately arrested for outstanding warrants.
The owners of this Audi A3 had the LoJack Vehicle Recovery System installed by Commonwealth Volkswagen/Audi on August 21, 2007.
