Philadelphia Investigators Recover Toyota Sienna Stolen in Perth Amboy, NJ

On Monday, March 26, 2012, the owner of a 2007 Toyota Sienna LE discovered that the vehicle had been stolen from Perth Amboy, New Jersey. The owner called 911 and Perth Amboy Police Radio dispatched an officer to investigate the incident. The officer arrived on location, interviewed the owner and surveyed the area for the subject vehicle. When the vehicle could not be located, the officer prepared a stolen vehicle report and had the Toyota’s information entered into the state and federal crime computer systems. This routine police action automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed within the Toyota. Neither the owner nor law enforcement agents had to take any further action to initiate the police’s tracking of the vehicle, as LoJack’s interface with the police is both seamless and instantaneous.
Almost immediately, officers with the Philadelphia Police Department began to receive the Toyota’s silent LoJack signal on the Police Tracking Computers installed in their patrol vehicles. Members of the Philadelphia Police Major Crimes Auto Squad were on duty and monitoring the radio transmissions from the officers tracking the stolen vehicle, and notified Police Radio that they were responding to the scene. Following the directional and signal strength cues from the tracking computers in their undercover police vehicle, the highly-trained investigators quickly located the parked and unoccupied subject vehicle in the area of 3900 Claridge Street. The investigators set up surveillance on the Toyota, but were unable to locate any suspects. They confiscated the vehicle and had it towed to Major Crimes Auto Squad HQ to be processed for physical evidence.
The incident remains under investigation by the Philadelphia Police Major Crimes Auto Squad.
