San Joaquin Officers Conduct Felony Stop, Arrest One Suspect, Recover Stolen GMC Envoy

On the afternoon of March 7, 2012, the owner of a 2003 GMC Envoy discovered that his vehicle had been stolen from his residence, and immediately contacted the Lodi Police Department to report the theft.
Lodi Police completed a stolen vehicle report and had the GMC’s information entered into the state and federal crime computer databases. This routine police action automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the vehicle. Neither the owners nor law enforcement had to take any further action to activate the LoJack Stolen Vehicle Recovery System, because LoJack’s interface with law enforcement is both seamless and instantaneous.
Less than 30 minutes later, investigators with the San Joaquin Auto Theft Task Force (Delta RATT) began to receive the silent signal from the now stolen GMC. Following the directional cues from their onboard LoJack Police Tracking Computers, the officers tracked and located the GMC, parked and abandoned in a residential area of Stockton. The investigators requested back-up units and set up surveillance on the vehicle, with the hope of catching the thief.
Several hours later, a suspect entered the vehicle and drove away. The investigators requested that a marked unit conduct a felony stop on the vehicle. A male suspect was taken into custody and arrested for auto theft and receiving stolen property. This suspect was currently on felony probation for auto theft.
The GMC was processed for fingerprints and released back to the grateful owner.
