CHP Stop Stolen Nissan Altima on the 605 — Vehicle Recovered, Suspect Arrested

On February 10, 2012, a California Highway Patrol officer from the Santa Fe Springs area was on routine patrol when his onboard LoJack Police Tracking Computer picked up the silent signal from a 1993 Nissan Altima reported stolen 90 minutes earlier in Alhambra. After obtaining a description of the vehicle, the officer continued tracking the LoJack signal until he caught up to the vehicle, traveling southbound on the 605 Freeway. He followed the vehicle until sufficient back-up units from CHP Santa Fe Springs arrived; the officers then conducted a felony traffic stop, and took the suspect into custody without further incident.
When questioned as to how he obtained the vehicle, the suspect replied that he had seen it in a parking lot with the keys inside, and decided to take it. Officers discovered tools inside the Nissan that had been left behind by the suspect. The suspect was later booked for various felony charges, pending a complaint by the Los Angeles County DDA. The vehicle was stored for safe keeping to be released at a later time.
The original owner of this Nissan Altima had LoJack installed at Wondries Nissan in October 1993, almost 19 years earlier.
