The owner of a 2014 Honda Odyssey left his minivan unlocked and running as he ran into a convenience store in Oakland, CA. He probably didn’t plan to be gone for long, but a moment is all it took for a thief to jump in and drive away. It’s a good thing this victim had the LoJack® system installed when he purchased his vehicle. With LoJack’s help, local law enforcement recovered the Odyssey in less than an hour after activation.

On February 21st, 2014, the Honda’s owner contacted Oakland Police to report the crime. Officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers. This procedure automatically activated the LoJack device concealed in the Odyssey, which was installed at Honda of Hayward, CA.

A short while later, a California Highway Patrol aviation unit picked up the homing signals from the stolen car with the LoJack tracking computer installed in their airship. The flight crew notified ground units and located the Honda parked and abandoned on a side street. The ground officers retrieved the Odyssey and quickly returned it to its thankful owner.
