Stolen Toyota Sienna Recovered within Hours in Mall Parking Lot in Queens

On January 29, 2012, the owner of a 2001 Toyota Sienna parked and locked hs vehicle on the street where he lives in the Flushing area of Queens, New York. When he returned for it some time later, he discovered the vehicle missing and immediately called the NYPD’s 109th Precinct.
When the police arrived, they took a written report, and had this information entered into the state and federal crime computers. This routine police action automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the Toyota and initiated the tracking of the vehicle.
A short while later, the Police with the Queens North Auto Larceny Unit picked up the LoJack signal from the stolen Sienna and started tracking it. They tracked the vehicle through several streets in the Queens North area until they ultimately pinpointed the signal to a shopping mall in College Point section of Queens, confines of the 109 precinct. There, they located the vehicle in the mall parking lot. They conducted surveillance on the Sienna for several hours; however, when no one returned to the vehicle, the police took it into custody. They contacted the owner, who was elated to know that his vehicle was recovered so quickly, and with no damage.
