When the California residents in this case lost the keys to their 2009 Toyota Highlander, they may have thought their biggest problem was getting the keys  replaced- until their SUV was stolen a few days later. The LoJack® system they had installed when purchasing their vehicle certainly came in handy. With LoJack’s assistance, local police were able to recover the Highlander in less than an hour after activation.

On November 21st, 2013, the Toyota’s owners called local police to report the crime. Officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers. This procedure automatically activated the LoJack device concealed in the Highlander, which was installed at Toyota of Glendale, CA.

A short while later, officers with the Bell PD picked up the homing signals from the stolen SUV on the LoJack tracking computers installed in their patrol vehicles.  The officers tracked the Toyota to Gage Ave and found it parked and unoccupied. After a brief surveillance a suspect entered the vehicle but was stopped before he could drive away. The suspect was taken into custody and the Highlander was returned to its very relieved owners.
