The equipment used on construction sites is a popular target with thieves because it’s both very valuable and extremely popular on the black market. Many companies that own these machines protect them with the LoJack® system, so, if their equipment is stolen, local law enforcement can recover them fast. In this case, a 2013 Melroe Bobcat S550 worth $35,000 is recovered by local police, assisted by LoJack, in less than 90 minutes after activation.

On November 14th, 2013, the Melroe’s owners contacted the Santa Ana Police to report their machine stolen.  Officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers. The LoJack transponder concealed in the Bobcat was then automatically activated

A short time later, officers with the Santa Ana PD picked up the homing signals from the stolen machine with the LoJack tracking computers installed in their patrol vehicles.  The officers tracked the vehicle to an alley off of Main Street in Santa Ana, where it was parked and abandoned. The Bobcat was recovered and soon returned to its grateful owners.
