Anaheim PD’s Air “Angel” Leads Orange County Deputies to Arrest and Recovery of Stolen Malibu

On January 16, 2012, deputies from Orange County Sheriff’s N. County HQ Station were on patrol when they picked up the silent LoJack signal of a stolen 2010 Chevrolet Malibu on the Police Tracking Computers installed in their patrol vehicles.
After broadcasting the information to other police units in the area, they continued their ground coordination. Anaheim Police Depaertment’s Air “Angel” flight officers overheard the broadcast and immediately lifted off from the Orange County Airport to aid in the search. Following the cues on the Police Tracking Computer in their aircraft, the officers tracked the stolen Malibu into the city of Stanton, where they located the vehicle parked in the 11300 block of Jane Way. The flight officers alerted the ground units that they had observed two individuals walking away from the vehicle. The ground units rolled into the area, located the vehicle and the two suspects, and detained both individuals.
Field investigation uncovered several keys on the suspects; one fit the car door, and the other two were “shaved keys” (commonly used by car thieves). Both suspects were arrested and booked on related theft charges. The undamaged Chevrolet Malibu was recovered, held for processing and will be released back to the victim.
The owner of this 2010 Chevrolet Malibu had the LoJack Vehicle Recovery System installed at Harbor Chevrolet in May, 2010.
