These Los Angeles residents had a shocking Saturday morning when their Toyota Camry was taken without their permission. The thief didn’t know that when she took the car, she was also taking the LoJack® system installed inside, allowing local law enforcement to track her and the Camry in only 54 minutes after activation.

On June 8th, 2013, the Toyota’s owners contacted the Los Angeles Police Department-Mission Division to report that their vehicle was stolen. LAPD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack unit concealed in the Toyota, which was installed at Hamer Toyota in Mission Hills, CA.

A short time later, LAPD Air 16 flight officers picked up the homing signal from the Toyota on the LoJack tracking computers installed in their air units. The flight officers tracked the vehicle to the area of Amboy and Weidner. They contacted ground units, and LAPD-Foothill Division patrol officers responded to the location. The ground officers monitored the vehicle, and a short time later, they observed a suspect enter the Camry and drive away. Officers stopped the car and arrested the suspect, who admitted to taking the vehicle, after seeing the owner park it and leave the keys in the ignition. The Toyota was soon returned to its very grateful owner.
