On December 28, 2012, the owners of a 2011 Toyota Corolla contacted the Houston Police Department to report that their vehicle was stolen from the driveway of their residence sometime during the previous night.

Houston Police verified the theft and entered the Toyota’s information into the state and federal crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the vehicle.

A short while later, officers from Houston Police Department picked up the silent LoJack homing signals from the stolen Toyota Corolla on the Police Tracking Computers installed in their patrol vehicles. Following the directional and audible cues from the LoJack computers, the officers tracked the Toyota Corolla to the 4800 block of Mayflower, where they located the vehicle, parked and abandoned in the driveway of an empty residence. Officers set up surveillance on the vehicle and later, when no activity occurred, the vehicle was processed for evidence and released to the grateful owner. It appeared the vehicle may have been used for transportation and then abandoned.

The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in the Toyota Corolla in November of 2011 at Mike Calvert Toyota in Houston, Texas.
