On July 1, 2012, the renters of a 2011 Wacker light tower discovered the equipment stolen from a construction site in rural Yuba County. On July 17, they finally reported the theft to the California Highway Patrol. CHP officers verified the theft and had the light tower’s information entered into the state and federal crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the equipment.

Minutes later, deputies with the Yuba County Sheriff’s Department began to receive the silent signal from the LoJack transponder hidden in the light tower on the Police Tracking Computers installed in their patrol vehicles. Following the directional and signal strength cues from their LoJack computers, the officers tracked the equipment to a parking lot in the city of Linda. There, the deputies observed the tower parked and abandoned in the lot. The deputies arranged to have the light tower recovered and returned to the rental company.

The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in the Wacker light tower in February of 2012.
