On May 8, 2012, the owner of a 2007 Ford Explorer Sport contacted the San Diego Police Department to report the vehicle stolen from San Diego. San Diego Police Department verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the Ford.

A short while later, officers from the San Diego Police Department picked up the silent LoJack homing signals from the stolen Ford Explorer Sport on the Police Tracking Computers installed in their patrol vehicles.  Following the directional and audible cues from the LoJack computers, the officers tracked the vehicle to a residential neighborhood at Naranja and 53rd Streets in San Diego.

The owner was very pleased when San Diego Police contacted her to retrieve the vehicle, which was recovered abandoned and undamaged.  The vehicle was valued at approximately $19, 000.
