LoJack® System Helps Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department Recover Stolen Chevrolet Corvette

The owners of a 2001 Chevrolet Corvette contacted the Holbrook Police Department, Arizona, to report that their vehicle was stolen by a named suspect. Officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Corvette.
A short while later officers from Riverside, San Bernardino and Los Angeles County began picking up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Corvette with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft. Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC as it travelled from Arizona north into Southern California. The Corvette finally reached the Los Angeles area where ground and air units began picking up the LoJack signal. Deputies from the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department West Hollywood Station radioed to area units that they had picked up the signal in the east end of West Hollywood. Another unit began searching the area and observed the Corvette driving in traffic on Santa Monica Blvd and affected a felony traffic stop at Santa Monica Blvd and Flores. The suspect was taken into custody without further incident and identified as the named suspect in the original theft report from Arizona. During questioning, the suspect told the deputies he had “borrowed the car in good faith and he was ok with that.” The suspect was booked for driving a stolen vehicle without owner’s consent, a felony. The Corvette was stored for safe keeping.
The LoJack® System was installed in the Chevrolet Corvette in May 2001 at Reliable Chevrolet in Richardson, Texas.
