LoJack® System Helps South Gate Police Department Recover Stolen Honda Civic

The owners of a 2000 Honda Civic contacted the Redondo Police Department to report that their vehicle was stolen by unknown suspects. Officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Honda Civic.
A short while later the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department Air-8 flight deputies radioed to ground units that they had picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Honda and were tracking the vehicle in the area of Evergreen Ave South of Santa Ana St. Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, they tracked the Honda to the 2900 block of Santa Ana St and observed a male suspect exiting the residence, walk up to the vehicle entering it and remove a black shirt, then walked to the rear patio area. Officers from the South Gate Police Department responded and were informed of the observations. Residents were asked to exit the residence and complied. None of them matched the description of the suspect seen at the Honda. Consent to search was given after one of the residents told the officers there was another person in the house. A search was initiated and a male matching the description by the observer was located in a bed room pretending to be sleeping. He was taken into custody, brought out of the residence and positively identified by the observer as the same suspect he had seen. This suspect was later booked for the theft. The Honda was stored for safe keeping and later released undamaged to the victim.
The LoJack® System was installed in the Honda Civic in November 1999 at Scott Robinson Honda in Torrance, California.
