The owners of a 2008 Mini Cooper contacted the Los Gatos Police Department to report that their vehicle was stolen. The victim stated they left their vehicle running in the driveway while they went in the house to pick something up. When they came back outside the Mini Cooper was gone.

The Los Gatos PD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Mini Cooper.

A short while later officers from the San Jose Police Department picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Mini Cooper with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft.  Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the officers tracked the Mini Cooper to the area of McLaughlin and Capitol Streets in San Jose. The officers observed the Mini Cooper parked and abandoned in a parking lot. The officers then contacted the Santa Clara Auto Theft Task Force who responded and set up surveillance on the Mini Cooper in hopes of catching the thief.

The surveillance met with negative results and the Mini Coopers was eventually towed and stored for safe keeping to be released to the owner later.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Mini Cooper in December 2008 at Bob Smith BMW in Calabasas, California.
