The owners of a 2015 Toyota Prius contacted the Alameda County Sheriff’s Department to report that their vehicle was stolen. The victim exited his place of employment and discovered that his Toyota had been stolen from the parking lot.

The Alameda SD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Toyota.

Just ten minutes later officers from the Oakland Police Department picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Toyota with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft.  Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the officers tracked the Toyota to the 6000 block of E.16th Street in Oakland. This is a residential area and the officers observed the Toyota parked and abandoned in the rear parking lot of the apartment complex.

The Toyota was recovered intact, towed and stored for release to the owner later.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Toyota Prius in April 2015 by Auto Nation Hayward Toyota in California.
