LASD Air-21 Flight Deputies Locate Stolen Nissan Maxima, Ground Units Arrest Parolee

On February 22, 2012, Los Angeles Sheriffs Air-21 flight deputies were on patrol when their onboard LoJack Police Tracking Computer (PTC) picked up the silent LoJack signal from a 1998 Nissan Maxima reported stolen to the Pasadena Police Department just minutes earlier. Following the directional signals on the PTC, the deputies tracked the stolen Nissan into the city of Montebello, where they located the vehicle, parked on a residential street.
The deputies observed a male enter the vehicle and remove a bag; the flight deputies then contacted ground officers from Montebello, relaying this information. Ground units responded and set up containment, then positioned an unmarked police unit to conduct surveillance on the car. A short time later, a second vehicle pulled up next to the stolen Nissan, and the male suspect climbed into the “pick up” vehicle. Patrol units quickly stopped the vehicle and took the suspect into custody. The suspect was a parolee, who was later booked for Driving Without Owner’s Consent and various parole violations.
