The owner of this Toyota Tacoma contacted the Kern County Sheriff’s Department and reported that their vehicle had been stolen. The Kern County Sheriff’s Department verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Toyota.

Just five minutes after the LoJack® System was activated, deputies with the Kern County Sheriff’s Department picked up the silent signals from the LoJack® System on the LoJack® Police Tracking Computers installed in their patrol vehicles. Following the directional and audible cues from the LoJack® computers, the deputies tracked the stolen Tacoma to a residence in the 300 block of Eye Street near downtown Bakersfield. The deputies located the vehicle parked in a driveway; a male adult was standing in front of it. The male was seen tossing a set of keys into the garage of the residence as the deputies approached him. When asked about the keys the male told the deputies that the truck in the driveway is probably stolen and he didn’t want to be caught with the keys in his possession. During further questioning the male suspect admitted some involvement in the theft of the vehicle. He was ultimately arrested for vehicle theft and possession of stolen property.

The victim’s vehicle was recovered intact and undamaged. It was stored pending release to the owner.

The LoJack® Stolen Vehicle Recovery System was installed in this Toyota Tacoma by Visalia Toyota-Scion in Visalia, California in November 2013
