The owner of a 2010 Honda Civic contacted the Los Angeles Police Department Newton Division to report that his vehicle was stolen by carjacking. Descriptions were given to the officers as well as the stolen property taken during the robbery/car jack. Officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Honda Civic.

Minutes later officers from the LAPD 77th picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Honda with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft. The LoJack silent signal was also being tracked by LAPD Air-3. The officers spotted the Honda and followed it to a residential driveway in the 600 block of West 92nd St and detained two suspects matching the description at gun point. While waiting for back up, the passenger ran from the stop into an apartment complex. Air-3 flight officers kept eyes on the suspect advising ground units of his whereabouts. The LAPD Metro Division Canine officers were called to the scene where a perimeter was established. As the officers were searching the apartment building, the suspect emerged from one of the apartments and surrendered. Both suspects were arrested without further incident and booked for the car jack of the Honda as well as robbery from the victim. Some of the property was recovered and the Honda was impounded for processing. Case was referred to Newton Detectives.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Honda Civic in September 2009 at Carson Honda in California.
