The owners of a 2017 Nissan Maxima contacted the Colton Police Department to report their Nissan was stolen. The Colton PD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Nissan.

A short while later deputies from the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department Norwalk picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Nissan with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft. Patrol deputies tracked the Nissan to the unincorporated area of Whittier. The patrol deputies requested the assistance of an LASD Airship. Air 24 arrived in the area and located the stolen Nissan at a gas station with a male subject putting gas into the vehicle. The airship observed the male subject get into the Nissan and drive away. Air 24 followed the Nissan a short distance where the driver pulled to the curb and exited the Nissan. The driver walked away southbound. Air 24 saw a female passenger exit the front passenger door and also walk southbound. Patrol deputies arrived in the area and detained both subjects. The deputies questioned the male subject about the Nissan. He told the deputies he borrowed the Nissan from his uncle. The subject gave the deputies the first name of his uncle but said he couldn’t remember the last name of his uncle or how to contact him. When the deputies asked him how he obtained the Nissan from his uncle, the subject stopped talking. The female was a juvenile, who claimed she had just met the driver 10 minutes prior when he asked if she needed a ride. The female was returned home to her father by the deputies. The male subject was arrested for the theft of the Nissan and two outstanding warrants. The Nissan was recovered without damage.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Nissan Maxima in September 2017 at Enterprise in Rialto, California.
