The owner of a 2008 Volkswagen Passat contacted the Los Angeles Police Department to report his vehicle was stolen. The owner had left his Volkswagen Passat with a friend while he was out of town. When the owner returned he discovered his Volkswagen missing. The LAPD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Volkswagen.

A short while later officers from the Buena Park Police Department picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Volkswagen with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft. Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the officers tracked the Volkswagen to a fast food restaurant in the city of Buena Park. The officers found the Volkswagen parked with a female driver. The officers detained the female and searched the Volkswagen. Inside the Volkswagen the officers found drugs and drug paraphernalia. The officers arrested the female for the theft of the Volkswagen, along with drug related charges. The Volkswagen was recovered.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Volkswagen Passat in December 2007 at McKenna Volkswagen in Huntington Beach, California.
