The owners of a 2005 Toyota Camry contacted the Los Angeles Police Department Mission Division to report that their vehicle was stolen by an adult family member. Officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Toyota Camry.

A short while later a deputy from the Santa Barbara Sheriff’s Department Carpintaria Station picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Toyota with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft. Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the deputy tracked the Toyota to the 1030 block of Casitas Pass Rd and located the vehicle parked behind the area business. Assisted by other deputies, they made contact with a male adult sitting in the driver’s seat and extricated him without further incident. The deputies questioned the suspect and were told that he had taken the Toyota from his parents without permission. The suspect was arrested for the theft of the vehicle and booked into the county jail facility. The undamaged Toyota was processed and stored for safe keeping.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Toyota Camry in March 2005 at Northridge Toyota in California.
