The owner of a 2010 Toyota Corolla contacted the Inglewood Police Department to report that their vehicle was stolen. Officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Toyota Corolla.

A short while later officers from the Los Angeles International Airport Police Department (LAX) picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Toyota Corolla with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft. Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the officers tracked the Toyota to a parking lot of a large discount store. Noting it was unoccupied, the officers set up containment and surveilled. Within a few minutes they observed a male approach, unlock the Toyota and began moving it. The officers deployed on the Toyota taking the driver into custody. When questioned, the suspect indicated that the Toyota belonged to his female friend who was inside the store shopping. He provided a description to the officers which led to a female matching the description of what was given by the driver.

The female was detained inside the store as she was found inside a clothing change room along with numerous pieces of store clothing. Three items apparently had the magnetic detector removed. Also found were numerous pieces of identity and credit cards in other peoples named as well as a man’s wallet. When questioned the female told the officers she had stolen the Toyota from her mother and this was the second time this year. She further told the officers she needed clothing to appear in court. The owner/mother was contacted and verified that neither her daughter nor anyone else had permission to take her Toyota. Both suspects were arrested on numerous felony charges and were booked at the LAPD Pacific division.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Toyota Corolla in August 2009 at North Hollywood Toyota in California.
