The owners of a 2007 Honda Accord contacted the Los Angeles Police Department to report their vehicle was stolen. The LAPD Newton verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Honda.

Only six minutes later the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department Lakewood’s Skynight airship picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Honda with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft. Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, Skynight tracked the Honda to the north end of Long Beach. Skynight located the Honda as it was being driven around the city of Long Beach. Skynight watched as the Honda was parked in an alley and the driver exited and walked away. Skynight followed the driver as she walked down the alley, crossed a street and walked down another alley. Skynight saw the female driver enter the rear yard of a residence where they briefly lost sight of her. Skynight requested the assistance of the LASD Lakewood patrol deputies. While waiting for patrol deputies to arrive Skynight saw the same female driver leave the residence and walk back to the stolen Honda. The female entered the stolen Honda and drove away. Patrol deputies were arriving in the area and Skynight directed them to the Honda. The stolen Honda was successfully stopped by patrol deputies.

The female driver was questioned and she told deputies she got the Honda from a friend. The deputies asked her if her friend was a car thief and she said “Yes,” but that the Honda was not stolen. The deputies informed her the Honda was stolen and she said, “That figures.” The female also said it was bad for her because she was on probation for auto theft. Later during the booking process the female driver admitted she knew the Honda was stolen but she took her chances because she needed a vehicle to move out of her residence.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Honda Accord in March 2003 at Crest Honda in Nashville, Tennessee.
