The owner of a 2004 Jaguar XJ called the Chicago Police Department to report that his vehicle had been taken in an armed robbery. The victim stated that a girl he had known for two weeks lured him into an abandoned building on the 6900 block of South Loomis Blvd in Chicago’s Engelwood neighborhood where two men with guns were waiting to rob him. The victim was relieved of his wallet, cash, cell phone, car keys and then chased down the street by the offenders. The Chicago PD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Jaguar.

Four minutes after the Jaguar was activated the Cook County/Chicago PD helicopter equipped with a LoJack Police Tracking Computer (PTC) picked up the silent and directional signal from the stolen Jaguar over the 6500 block of S Wolcott Avenue, approximately a mile away from the robbery location. The stolen Jaguar was observed parked on the street with two suspects sitting on a porch nearby. A ground unit equipped with a PTC located the stolen Jaguar and took the two suspects into custody, one of which had property from the victim on his person. A line up was conducted and the offenders were identified by the victim and subsequently charged with armed robbery and criminal trespass to Jaguar. The female has been identified and is still at large.

Due to LoJack the owner of this 2004 Jaguar had his vehicle recovered minutes after he reported it taken in an armed robbery. The Jaguar was recovered before it could be damaged, stripped, cloned, re-tagged or used in a crime.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Jaguar XJ in November 2008 at Jaguar Aston Martin Kearney of San Diego, California.
