The owner of a 2008 Acura TSX called the Rio Rancho Police Department to report the vehicle was stolen. The owners advised they left the keys in the Acura while it was parked in their garage at their residence. However, the owners left the garage door partially open which allowed the offenders access to take their Acura. The Rio Rancho PD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Acura.

Acura Recovered, No Obvious Damage – Suspect Arrested

Shortly after the activation, a deputy with the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office and officers with the Albuquerque Police Department picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Acura with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in their patrol vehicles and aircraft. They tracked the Acura to the area of Goff and Isleta parked at a convenience store. Additional units were called into the area to set up a perimeter and make contact with the occupant. The female driver was taken into custody and the Acura was recovered with no obvious signs of damage. During the field interview with the offender she verified how she stole the Acura by going under the garage door, located the keys and drove off.

The owners were notified of the Acura’s recovery and responded to the scene. The owners did not know they had LoJack installed in their Acura and could not believe how quickly it was recovered. The owners asked how they could install LoJack in their second car. The Acura was subsequently released back to the very happy owners. The offender was arrested for auto theft related charges and booked into the Metropolitan Detention Center.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Acura TSX in December 2007 at Acura 101 West in Calabasas, California.
