The owner of a 2001 Dodge Dakota contacted the Phoenix Police Department to report that their vehicle had been stolen from a multi business parking lot. The Dodge was stolen with the keys that had been left in the vehicle. Witnesses advised that the suspect pulled up in a 1994 Chevrolet Suburban and then attempted to steal the Dodge Dakota. The suspect pointed a gun at a citizen that tried to intervene. The Suburban was left behind and determined to be reported stolen earlier to the Phoenix PD.

The Phoenix PD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Dodge.

Fifty minutes later, officers from the Phoenix PD picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Dodge with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft. Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the officers tracked the Dodge to the area of 25th Street and Greenway Parkway.

The officers located the stolen Dodge unoccupied in the parking lot of an apartment complex. The suspect could not be located in the area. The Dodge was recovered and processed for evidence. A shotgun and keys to a motorcycle were missing from the Dodge Dakota. The Dodge was later returned to the owner in good condition.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Dodge Dakota in September 2001 at Power Dodge Valencia in California.
