The owners of a 2017 Ford Mustang contacted the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department to report that their vehicle was stolen from the 5400 block of Drexel Road. The victim is a car dealership who had been having a series of thefts from their property. They noticed the Mustang missing from the lot and notified the LVMPD VIPER team who responded to take the report.

A police officer verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Mustang. The VIPER team had been working a vehicle thieving crew and had a good idea what part of town they might be in so they responded to that area to await the activation of the LoJack unit in the Mustang.

A short while later officers from the LVMPD VIPER team picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Mustang with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTCs) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft.

Suspects Arrested – Stolen Mustang as well as Ford Raptor and Dodge Challenger Recovered

Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the officers tracked the Mustang to a residence a short distance from the dealership and located the Mustang at the address. The VIPER team set up surveillance on the Mustang and was able to also identify a stolen 2015 Ford Raptor at the same address. The VIPER Team was able to tag the Raptor with a tracking device and they watched as both vehicles became occupied and left the area in different directions. The officers followed both vehicles to different businesses where they were able to take both suspects safely into custody. Both individuals admitted to stealing vehicles from dealerships and also gave up a stolen Dodge Charger they had stolen that was nearby. One of the suspects was also carrying a gun. Both were arrested and charged with multiple vehicle thefts as well as possession of the gun. The LoJack helped the VIPER team to identify and arrest a crew of thieves they had been trying to locate. Besides recovering the Mustang they also recovered the Raptor and a new Dodge Charger.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Ford Mustang in March 2017 at Team Ford in Las Vegas, Nevada.
