The owners of a 2006 Toyota Camry contacted the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department East Valley station to report that their vehicle was stolen by unknown suspects. The Ventura County SD deputies verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Toyota Camry.

A short while later an officer from the Oxnard Police Department picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Toyota with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft. Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the officer tracked the Toyota to the 1600 block of Pacific Avenue and located the vehicle parked and unoccupied. As he began his investigation, he noted that the engine was hot with the doors locked and appeared to have been recently driven. The Toyota was parked in a parking lot of an open business. He also noted paperwork inside the Toyota with a name of a person not matching the owner.

Suspect Arrested

The officer walked into the business and contacted a female with the name matching the paperwork inside the locked Toyota. When questioned the female gave a story that she was dropped off by an unknown person and had no idea how her personal paper work got inside the stolen Toyota. Apparently there was a video of this Toyota pulling up showing the suspect exiting with no one else entering and placing items inside which refuted the suspect’s statement. She was arrested without incident and booked for the theft.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Toyota Camry in December 2005 at Gabe Toyota in Long Beach, California.
