The owners of a 2017 Lincoln MKZ contacted the Santa Monica Police Department to report that their vehicle was stolen by use of False Identity and Fraud when sold. Officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Lincoln MKZ.

Within less than 30 minutes from the entry, officers from the Los Angeles Police Department Southwest Division assisted by the LAPD Air-16, picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Lincoln MKZ with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft. Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the officers and Air-16 tracked the moving Lincoln to a residential street on 42nd place and made contact with two females. The driver indicated her boyfriend let them borrow the Lincoln and did not know it was stolen.

The officers contacted the Santa Monica PD detectives and relayed the information. At that point, the officers impounded the undamaged Lincoln for safe keeping and released the two females pending further investigation. It should be noted that this was one of two Lincolns taken by identity theft and the only one to have a LoJack Stolen Vehicle Recovery System Pre-installed on it at the dealership. Case was referred to the Santa Monica PD detectives for follow up.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Lincoln MKZ in October 2016 at Santa Monica Ford Lincoln Mercury Subaru in Santa Monica, California.
