The owner of a 2007 Toyota Solara contacted the Hayward Police Department to report that their vehicle had been stolen. The Toyota was taken from behind the owner’s gas station / auto repair business located in the area of Tennyson Road and Calaroga Avenue. The Toyota had last been seen three days earlier on a Friday and was discovered missing on Monday. The suspect(s) had apparently entered the business and removed several sets of vehicle keys from a key board. The suspects also attempted to steal a Mercedes Benz from the location but this vehicle was not in operating condition.

The Hayward PD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Toyota Solara.

Suspects Arrested

Just a short while later, officers from the Hayward PD picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Toyota with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft. Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the officers tracked the stolen Toyota to the parking lot of an apartment complex in the 25000 block of Gading Road. The stolen Solara then drove out of the apartment complex occupied by three subjects and drove to a gas station at the corner of W Harder Road and Bishop Avenue and stopped at the gas pumps. While awaiting backup units, the three suspects went into the gas station store and then shortly exited with drinks. The driver then began putting gas into the stolen Toyota. Marked patrol backup units arrived just as the suspects had gotten back into the Solara and they were then taken into custody without incident. One subject was released as it was confirmed he had no knowledge the Toyota was stolen.

Second Recovery for this Vehicle Using the LoJack System

The Toyota was recovered and the owner responded to the scene to pick up his vehicle. The owner advised he had recently purchased the Solara at auction and he was unaware the vehicle was equipped with LoJack. This was the second theft and then recovery of this Toyota via the LoJack Stolen Vehicle Recovery System.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Toyota Solara in November 2006 at AutoNation Toyota Cerritos in California.
