A construction contractor contacted the Montebello Police Department to report that a rented 2017
Bobcat was stolen from their construction site during the holiday weekend. Upon returning to the site, the contractor noted the Bobcat was missing. Officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Bobcat.

A short while later the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department Aero Bureau and deputies from the LASD Industry Station picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Bobcat with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft. Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the deputies tracked the Bobcat to the 300 block of California and pinpointed the Bobcat appearing to be stored inside a commercial business. The TRAP (Taskforce for Regional Auto theft Prevention) detectives responded to handle the investigation. Contact was eventually made with the owner of the business who told the detectives he had purchased the Bobcat for $11,000 (estimated value $30,000) from an individual the day following the holiday. That business owner provided documentary evidence as well as photos of the suspect to the detectives. The undamaged Bobcat was removed from inside the location and stored at a contract tow company. It was later released to the manager of the rental company. Investigation will be handled by the detectives from TRAP.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Bobcat in March 2017 via Commercial Customer in Gwinner, North Dakota.
