The owners of a 1996 Honda Accord contacted the Los Angeles Police Department Van Nuys Division to report that their vehicle was stolen by unknown suspects. Officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Honda Accord.

A short while later officers from the LAPD West Valley Division picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Honda Accord with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft. Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the officers tracked the Honda to Vanowen St and Woodley Ave and observed the stolen Honda travelling north in an alley west of Woodley Ave as they were south in the same alley. The officers turned around following the Honda waiting for back up. As the Honda reached the 16000 block of Vanowen St, the suspect pulled into a driveway. The officers conducted a felony traffic stop taking the suspect into custody without further incident. During the field investigation the suspect told him that his father gave him a Mitsubishi key and told him there was a new car parked in the street. The suspect stated he saw the Honda, entered, started it up and drove off as the officers drove towards him. The suspect was later booked for the theft of the Honda. The Honda was stored for safe keeping and later released to the victim.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Honda Accord in February 1996 at Herb Chambers Honda in Burlington, Massachusetts.
