The owner of a 1997 Chevrolet Suburban contacted the Oakland Police Department to report that their vehicle had been stolen. The victim advised their Chevrolet had been taken from the 6000 block of Fairlane Drive.

The Oakland PD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Chevrolet Suburban.

A short while later officers from the East Bay Region Parks Police Department Helicopter Unit picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Suburban with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft.  Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC the officers tracked the stolen Suburban to the area of the Sibley Volcanic Regional Preserve on Skyline Road near Grizzly Peak Boulevard in Oakland. The air unit directed in an East Bay Regional Parks PD ground unit who located the Chevrolet parked and abandoned.

The Chevrolet was recovered and released to the owner at the scene.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Chevrolet Suburban in December 1996 at Poway Chevrolet California.
