The owner of a 2006 Mercedes Benz CLS contacted the Copley Police Department to report that their vehicle, keys, and other property were stolen by a known suspect.

The Copley PD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Mercedes.

A short while later a vehicle equipped with a LoJack Police Tracking Computer (PTC) travelling on Interstate 77 on the south side of Canton, Ohio, picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Mercedes. Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC the stolen Mercedes was tracked to a residential area of Canton where it was found parked and unoccupied.

While awaiting arrival of the Canton PD, suspects entered the stolen Mercedes and drove off.  The Canton PD was advised and the Mercedes was followed until the Canton PD arrived and performed a felony stop.  The driver and occupant were removed and placed under arrest.

The owner of the stolen Mercedes responded to pick up the vehicle.  Because of the quick recovery there was no damage to it and the suspects were unable to commit additional crimes.  This matter is to be further investigated by both the Canton PD and Copley PD.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Mercedes Benz CLS in December 2006 at Mercedes Benz of Laguna Niguel in California.
