The owners of a 1994 Mazda Miata contacted the Glendale Police Department to report that their vehicle was stolen by unknown suspects. Officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Mazda Miata.

Deputies from the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department Palmdale Station picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Miata with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft.  Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the deputies tracked the Mazda to 128th E Street and Ave V, which according to the deputies was the middle of the north county desert Palmdale area and located the vehicle with two suspects standing next to the Mazda.  Both suspects were detained resulting in the keys to the Mazda being found on one of the suspects.  Both suspects were arrested and later booked for the theft. The undamaged Mazda was stored and later returned to the owner.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Mazda Miata in January 1994 by Direct Sales in Los Angeles, California.
