The owners of a 2010 Honda Civic contacted the Burbank Police Department to report that their vehicle was stolen.  Apparently a suspect had broken into their residence stole cash and jewelry then located the keys to the Honda and drove off. Officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Honda Civic.

Within minutes from the activation, flight officers in Air-1,Glendale/Burbank Joint Air Support picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Honda with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft.  Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, Air-1 tracked the Honda to a large shopping complex in Burbank and directed ground units to the vehicle.  A male adult was taken into custody without further incident.  Apparently according to detectives, this suspect was a “homeless” person who had previously broken into another residence, used the bath, cut his hair and ate food before leaving with property of the victim.  It was noted that cash was recovered from the suspect and would be later returned to the victims.  The detective assigned to this case filed “Felony Residential Burglary” charges as well as vehicle theft.  The undamaged Honda was returned to the owner.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Honda Civic in December 2010 at Sierra Auto Cars Honda in Monrovia, California.
