The owner of a 1997 Toyota 4Runner contacted the Las Vegas Metro Police Department to report their vehicle was stolen. The Las Vegas Metro PD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Toyota.

About 25 minutes after the activation, an officer with the North Las Vegas Police Department picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Toyota with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft. Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the officer tracked the Toyota to a home improvement store parking lot. The officer observed the Toyota to be occupied with two subjects. The officer made contact with the Toyota and took the offenders into custody. The driver was identified as a repeat auto theft offender. The Toyota was towed from the scene for safekeeping and will be released back to the owner at a later time.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Toyota 4Runner in December 1999 at Hamer Toyota in Mission Hills, California.
