The owner of this Ford F550 contacted the Kern County Sheriff’s Department to report that his truck had been stolen from the company storage yard. The Kern County SD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Ford.

About 15 minutes later, the flight crew of the Kern County SD helicopter picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Ford with the LoJack Police Tracking Computer (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft. Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the flight crew tracked the Ford to a residential area in east Bakersfield. The truck was spotted in the back yard of a residence. The Kern County SD ground units were directed to the scene and made contact with the occupants of the home. The home owner allowed deputies access to the back yard. The truck was found intact but a welder, compressor and tools had been removed from the bed. The tools were found in the yard near the truck.

Investigation revealed that there were two adult male suspects involved in the theft. Both were former employees of the truck’s owner. They are currently being sought for vehicle theft crimes.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Ford F550 Truck by LoJack Commercial Sales in April 2005.
