The owners of a 2011 John Deere 310J Backhoe contacted the Butte County Sheriff’s Department to report that their backhoe was stolen. The backhoe was out on rent in the City of Chico and had been parked on the construction site overnight. The next morning the backhoe was missing.

The Butte County SD verified the theft and entered the backhoe information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the John Deere.

Several days later, deputies from the Butte County SD with the assistance of LoJack picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen John Deere with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft. Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the deputies tracked the backhoe to the area of W. Sacramento Street and River Rd west of Chico. There the deputies observed the backhoe parked and abandoned in a large walnut grove. The backhoe was intact and did not appear to be damaged.

The rental company was contacted and responded to take possession of the recovered equipment.

The LoJack® System was installed in the John Deere Backhoe in June 2011 by Commercial / Direct Sales.
