The owners of a 2007 Toyota Camry contacted the El Mirage Police Department to report that their vehicle had been stolen from the driveway of their residence sometime overnight. The suspect broke into another vehicle in the driveway and found the garage door opener. The suspect then entered the garage and found the keys to the Toyota Camry.
The police verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Toyota.

A short while later troopers from the Arizona Highway Patrol picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Toyota with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft. Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the troopers tracked the Toyota to a neighborhood northeast of 59th Avenue and Northern Avenue, in Glendale.

Detectives from the Arizona Vehicle Theft Task Force responded to the area to assist.  One of the task force detectives tracking the signal with his PTC drove in the alley and observed the stolen Toyota in the backyard of a residence.  A male subject was seen with the stolen Toyota.  The suspect saw the detective in the alley and ran from the property through the neighbor’s yard.  A perimeter was immediately established containing the suspect within the block.  The Glendale PD ground units and the Phoenix PD helicopter responded and assisted with the perimeter and search.  The suspect was located two properties to the north hiding in a detached guest house.  The suspect was taken into custody without incident, arrested and booked for the theft of the Toyota and criminal trespassing.  The Toyota was recovered in good condition and impounded for safekeeping.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Toyota Camry in January 2009 at Toyota Place in Garden Grove, California.
